Why Christian Science is the Only True and Permanent End to Suffering
DID YOU KNOW ALBERT EINSTEIN admired Christian Science? That might be a loaded question, considering many people haven’t even heard of Christian Science.
But you’ve heard of Einstein.
Though there’s no evidence he ever actually joined a church or “converted” to the religion, there’s considerable evidence earth’s greatest physicist had more than just a causal curiosity about it. Late in life in the 1950’s, he was often seen attending Wednesday evening services and Christian Science reading rooms in New York and New Jersey, often engaging in spirited conversations with church members.
On one well-documented occasion, he quipped to a church member named George Nay in a gathering after a service: “Do you people realize what a wonderful thing you have?”
Mary Baker Eddy’s spiritual discoveries have been slandered and silenced so often and so well by the pulpit and the press since they were first introduced in 1866, that the eternal Truths they reveal that have transformed the lives of millions of people around the world for over 150 years… may as well have never happened.
But now you know they did. And part of the reason I’m here is so you don’t have to do any more misleading Google searches.
Why I’m Here
I’m not a scholar, an academic, or a theologian — I’m much more qualified than that. I’m a guy in his 40’s who’s lived an unconventional and adventurous life, struggled and suffered a lot, tried everything to alleviate that suffering, from Buddhism to transcendental meditation to good old fashioned hedonism, only to discover that they were all bandaids.
I found one that wasn’t.
Christian Science, or the Science of Christ, has done a page-one rewrite on my life, transforming my views on existence, identity and health. I wouldn’t have started this endeavor if I didn’t think it could do the same for you.
It may take me some time to sift through all the misinformation you’ve been exposed to, but as I do, I assure you it will only be spiritually uphill.
The world is ready (again) for divine Science. For one, there are people in all corners of the globe who apply its principles without even knowing it’s actually a thing that was discovered by a woman in the 1800’s. Her discovery, based on the healing ministry of Jesus, offers solutions to all of life’s problems, and in my view is the only true and permanent panacea for the increasingly materialistic world in which we find ourselves.
No other religion has a more extensive public record of healing than Christian Science, and within the next entry or two you’ll begin to understand that it isn’t about “healing” anything — it’s about knowing what was always True. This knowing is what “heals.”
Materialism: The Evil of Our Age
It’s no coincidence this global moral nosedive into materialism — this pervasive pride of power in the world — is seeing a simultaneous rise in suffering, most notably among younger people, especially in America, feeling trapped in a world of social media superficiality and diminishing human connection. Mrs. Eddy (as she’s been affectionately known) spent most of her life sounding the alarm on materiality, and it became a towering component of what Science (Jesus) exposed as error, or nothingness, that destroys itself.
She saw the biggest problem in Christianity, not to mention humanity as a whole, as an over-reliance on medicine and materialism. In particular to Christianity, it was a dependence that to her didn’t really add up: if Jesus, the creator and founder of Christianity, never prescribed a drug, never sent anyone to a doctor, never named a disease, and never performed any lavish rituals or ceremonies, wasn’t that God saying we don’t need anything other than His Love for healing? Weren’t Jesus’ final words, “it is finished,” meant to reassure future us that we are officially equipped to “overcome the world?”
What Jesus Really Came to Do
Mrs. Eddy, a Christian to her core, set out to revive this simple method of early healing in her book Science and Health after recovering from a near death fall on the ice in 1866 with only her Bible by her side. She would not only give readers the keys that unearthed the eternal truths of Scripture and a rare and clear insight into the mind of Christ, but herself healed hundreds of patients over her lifetime, from depression, to broken limbs, to cancer.
Jesus’ healing ministry was to show the average person that they could heal at any time and in any era: “The works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” Everything he did or said poured into his Science of Christianity, and Mrs. Eddy’s contribution was to show up 1900 years later to the explain it in a way no one else had ever done.
Jesus told his disciples near the end of his earthly life: "I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.” Christian Scientists believe that Eddy’s spiritual interpretations of The Gospels were the revelations the Son of God couldn’t risk overwhelming his disciples with before leaving them.
Christian Scientists are Christians
Are the majority of traditional Christians aware of how erroneous their views are of Christian Science? Are they aware Scientists are true Christians?
It seems to be a no on both fronts, and that’s more a result of a centuries-long telephone game, where facts have been altered, misinterpreted or slandered, falsities pushed and perpetuated by the threatened status quo, all frankly to the detriment of the average seeker thirsting for the true spirituality of early Christianity.
May it be put into record by a modern Christian writer who has benefited from its eternal Truths: Christian Science is not an innovation, a method, or some mind trick — it is the true Christianity of Jesus, watered down over the centuries and bravely and relentlessly revived by a woman determined to bring back Christ-consciousness.
Christian Science, or the Science of Christ, was the divine Truth Jesus employed to heal, lifted directly from Scripture — and anyone who understood or was the beneficiary of that Truth was healed instantly. Before Mrs. Eddy took a power washer to the materialism that had covered true Christianity for nearly two millennia, no one in the modern world had ever attempted to unlock the healing work of Jesus in as focused a way.
You know something’s true when most of the world hates it.
In restoring the lost art of spiritual healing, the male-dominated powers-that-be were driven mad by a woman doing things a man was supposed to be doing, not to mention putting her money where her mouth was by demonstrating what she preached.
“The error of the ages is preaching without practice,” she wrote in Science and Health. “The hour has struck when proof and demonstration, instead of opinion and dogma, are summoned to the support of Christianity.”
The last 100 pages of Science and Health have hundreds of testimonies from everyday people healed with Science; there have been millions of “undocumented” healings over the centuries.
Then why is it that some of the most brilliant minds of the last 150 years, the likes of Einstein, Mark Twain, JD Salinger and countless others, couldn’t withhold their support for this restored way of thinking called Christian Science? How has a movement led by the most famous woman in America at the turn of the 20th-century, a movement that in its prime boasted hundreds of thousands of adherents worldwide and tens of thousands of verified and documented healings from sin, sickness, and every conceivable human discord in between — dwindled so dramatically?
The main reason is the world’s rising obsession with materialism. There are other factors I look forward to address, but the prime purpose of this series is to give you the pure, unadulterated perfection of Science, so that you can understand who you really are.
This I can assure you: If you’re a Christian or a believer of any kind, divine Science will become the blueprint for your true identity.
“If you launch your bark upon the ever-agitated but healthful waters of truth, you will encounter storms. Your good will be evil spoken of. This is the cross. Take it up and bear it, for through it you win and wear the crown. Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven; stranger, thou art the guest of God.” Mary Baker Eddy
